The Alton Symphony Orchestra encourages you to apply for the ASO Music For All Scholarship. The funding for our ASO Music For All Scholarship is provided by proceeds from the annual Alton Symphony Orchestra Trivia Night, the ASO Annual Fund, and community, corporate, and private donations.

The ASO Music For All Scholarship will be awarding one-time $400 scholarships to qualified students in need of financial assistance for private music lessons. Applicants will be judged by their need for financial support, academic achievement, community/extracurricular involvement, and leadership.
​
For students that show commitment to community involvement they will be awarded the "Jerre Honke Scholarship" in honor of one of our previous board presidents for her commitment to ASO and music in the community.

Eligibility​

U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident
-
Reside within a 125 mile radius of Alton, Illinois

Must be a student attending school or an accredited homeschool program, any age from 1st grade through 12th grade

Elementary and Middle School students must have a B grade Average. High School students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale

The student must be participating in their school/school district's music ensembles or an equivalent community ensemble (to be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee upon application receipt)
Guidelines

​Only ONE application is to be submitted per applicant.

The application form must be electronically submitted by 11:59 p.m. on November 30, 2024.

Your application must include a letter of recommendation from either a school district music teacher, or the director of the student's equivalent community ensemble. Submit only one (1) letter.

Your application must include an essay on why you think this scholarship should be awarded to you and can include examples of why you need the scholarship, what your future musical plans are, etc.

The scholarship award will be sent directly to the recipient's private lessons instructor of choice upon receipt of the signed and dated agreement form, which will be sent to the recipient following the Scholarship Committee's final decision.

If the student does not currently have a private lesson instructor, one must be procured and the Alton Symphony Orchestra must be notified by December 31, 2024.​ If you need help procuring a private instructor, the ASO will do its best to assist you.

If the student stops lessons or does not continue private lessons for any reason, all lessons prepaid for by the Alton Symphony Orchestra and the scholarship will be forfeit and no refunds will be given.​​

No previous winners will be eligible to receive a scholarship.​
